What is the Costa del Sol?
The Costa del Sol, the “Sun Coast”, is the Mediterranean coastline of Málaga province in Andalucía, southern Spain. It runs from Manilva and Casares in the west, through Estepona, Marbella, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Torremolinos, to Málaga city, whose airport is the main way in. Sotogrande sits just over the border in Cádiz province, but it shares the same day-to-day community, so it is included here.
It is a place of long-established Spanish towns and international communities side by side: full-time residents of many nationalities, people planning a move, second-home owners, and millions of visitors a year. That mix is why simple questions (which school, which gestor, who fixes a pool, what’s happening this weekend) are so hard to answer from a search engine, and so easy to answer for someone who lives down the road.
What is this site?
costadelsol.community is built around one idea: people who live here know things worth sharing. It has three parts.
- Questions is the heart of it. Ask about living, moving or visiting, filter by area, and get answers from locals. The most helpful answers rise to the top.
- The directory is a free list of local businesses, by area and type.
- Events is a simple calendar of what’s happening, shared by the people running and attending.
Who is it for?
- Residents who want to help neighbours, or find a recommendation.
- People moving, or thinking about moving, who need answers before they arrive.
- Second-home owners and regular visitors who want to know what’s going on.
- Local businesses and organisers who want to be found by the community.
How it works
Anyone can read. To ask, answer or vote, join for free: sign in with Google or an emailed link, with no password to remember. Directory listings and events are checked before they appear, and anything reported by several members is hidden while we look at it.
